1. Nowadays, as many electric and electronic devices are used in daily life, it is highly important that they satisfy appropriate electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements. Mr. Masada has acted as the chairperson and the Japanese representative of the Japanese national deliberative committee for IEC/TC 77 which deals with international standardization of EMC, and as a member of IEC/ACEC (Advisory Committee on Electromagnetic Compatibility). He has made many technical proposals from Japan reflected in the standards, and has also developed the formulation of international standards which are difficult to coordinate among the interests of the many participating countries.
2. In addition, he has made efforts to increase Japan's presence in international standardization for IEC/TC 9 (Electrical equipment and systems for railways), and has achieved the first Japanese proposal in the relevant field. He has also contributed largely to promotion of international standardization straddling multiple government ministries like "the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications", "the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport", "the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry" etc.
3. He has acted as the vice-president of JISC (Japan Industrial Standards Committee) since 2004 and has led Japanese standardization activities. He has also acted as the leader of JISC three times for IEC general meetings and has greatly contributed to Japanese standardization activities.
4. Mr. Masada acted as the leader of the JISC Conformity Assessment Board from 2003 to 2012 and has made efforts in the development of conformity assessment system in Japan.
