Award for Contributors to Standardization Activities

The Railway Technology Standardization Investigation Committee hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has made honorable recognitions since 2007 through the Award for Contributors to Standardization Activities. The purposes of the award are to recognize the achievements of significant contributors to international and domestic standardization activities in railway application and promote their continued contribution, and to encourage recognition of the significance of standardization activities among related parties.
The Award for Contributors to Standardization Activities was presented for people who achieved remarkable results, and in addition, the Award for Promoters to Standardization Activities was established in 2011 for people who were expected to have continuous success.
The recipients of the awards for this fiscal year are listed below.

Kenji Sato |
Central Japan Railway Company |
Over seven years, Mr. Sato has worked as a member of many Japanese mirror working groups for IEC/TC 9 rolling stock standards and contributed to the publishing of standard documents such as the technical report for RAM (reliability, availability and maintainability) of rolling stocks based on his knowledge and experience as a railway operator.
He also worked as an expert of ISO/TC 269/WG 3 “Railway project planning” and contributed to the development of technical reports.

Haruo Sato |
East Japan Railway Company |
Over eleven years, Mr. Sato has worked as a member of many Japanese mirror working groups for IEC/TC 9 rolling stock standards and contributed to the revision of testing conditions and methods for electromechanics of rolling stocks from the view point of a railway operator.
He also worked as the project leader for revision of the Japanese Industrial Standard for speedometers and contributed to domestic standardization by coordinating the drafts.

Isao Takahashi |
Toshiba Corporation |
Over six years, Mr. Takahashi has worked as a member of the Japanese mirror working group for driving data recording systems and contributed to the making of standard drafts.
He also has worked as an expert of IEC/TC 9/WG 48 “On board driving information system”, incorporating the specifications proposed by Japan and contributed to the development of standards by building consensus between the participating countries.

Masahiko Hayamizu |
Meiko Construction Co., Ltd, |
Over many years, Mr. Hayamizu has worked as a member of many working groups for revision of Japanese Industrial Standards for railway tracks and contributed to the formulation and revision of standard drafts based on his knowledge and experience as a railway operator.
Also, regarding the conformity of JIS and international standards, he has contributed to the establishment of revision drafts equivalent to the international standards and considering the actual situation of Japan.

Mr. Akiyama has contributed to the making of the standard draft for HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems for rolling stock which was proposed by Japan at ISO/TC 269.
He also has worked as an expert of ISO/TC 269/WG 2 “HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems for rolling stock”and took an initiative role in the proposal based on Japanese technology.

Mr. Ito has worked as a member of Japanese mirror working groups for development and revision of international standards for railway signals of IEC/TC 9 and contributed to the establishment of standard drafts.
He also has participated in the international meetings for revision of RAMS standards and has positively given his opinions based on his knowledge and experience as a railway operator.

Mr. Suzuki has contributed to the establishment of many drafts of technical reports as a core member of Japanese mirror working groups for the railway project planning which was proposed by Japan at ISO/TC 269.
He also has worked as an expert of ISO/TC 269/WG 3 “Railway project planning” and contributed to the completion of the technical reports.

Mr. Sonoyama has worked as a member of Japanese mirror working groups for the revision of an international standard for railway rails and contributed as a core member to building consensus between the participants.
He also has worked as an expert of ISO/TC 17/SC 15/WG 1 “Railway rails” for revision of an international standard for railway rails and worked hard to incorporate Japanese proposals.
